Today, I was proactive about my health. But let's back up a bit.. In November, I was telling my GYN at my annual about my family history and how concerned I was about getting cancer. She suggested I see a Breast Cancer Doctor who specializes in family history. So I made the appointment with Dr. Pederson at the Cleveland Clinic for today and here I am. To prep for the appointment, I drew up my family tree with our cancer history so I could inform the doctors fully about my risks. Keep in mind that my family is bigger than most but it was pretty astounding to see all of my family members who have had cancer drawn out on a piece of paper. 7 people in my immediate or extended family had breast cancer and many others had other types of cancer or other diseases. I could hardly even fit it all on one piece of paper and may have even left some things out.
This came in handy when I filled out the lengthy questionnaire at the beginning of the appointment that asked everything from my family history to my own medical history.
